'3.45am - 5.45am'
(sound)
_‘3.45am – 5.04am’ is the representation of an event that is so distinctively visual it will always be referenced primarily or exclusively by these qualities.
_This sound piece is therefore exhibited as if it was an image. It is given the bright lights and white walled gallery space in keeping with the exterior exhibition rooms for the exhibition. In place of the photograph or painting depicting this traditional spectacle, speakers play the sound of the event.
_No visual reference is given to the viewer, the point of access is via the title and the text written on a card left outside of the sound space. The quote by Kosuth referencing the disconnection between aesthetics and art or the experience, should only encourage the viewer to recognise the dependency on visual information that can only inhibit our experiences and perception.
_‘To alter how we perceive is to alter what we perceive’ is the explanation as to why ‘3.45am – 5.04am’ displays a sunrise via sound alone.
